Reason #1: Your Car is Leaking Refrigerant

A refrigerant leak can occur at any location in the air conditioning labyrinth, and so it's sometimes difficult to pinpoint the exact location of the leak. However, the most common places where leaks occur are at A/C unit hose connections.

It's sometimes possible to see an oily substance accumulating around these connections, which is likely the source of the leak.

Reason #2: The Condenser is Blocked

The condenser of your vehicle's air conditioning unit cools the hot refrigerant after it has been compressed. The process uses the airflow coming through the front of your car to transfer the heat to the airflow. However, road debris can block the condenser, and in that case, it will be unable to cool the refrigerant properly. As a result, your car's system will continue to operate with overheated refrigerant. This means the refrigerant does not dissipate the heat, and you get no cool air from the vents.

In most vehicles, the condenser is mounted at the front of the engine bay, so it should be easy to see if anything is blocking it. This can easily be removed from behind the grill of your car and the problem should be resolved.

Reason #3: The Condenser is Broken

If there doesn’t appear to be anything blocking the condenser, it’s possible that it may be broken altogether. For example, a broken condenser can be caused by a puncture from road debris going through the grill of your car and damaging that part or related equipment. If there are noticeable punctures in the condenser, the only way to fix it is to replace it.

Reason #4: Electrical Issues

Electrical faults can be problematic to locate, given that electronic controls are interconnected with other systems. However, damaged wiring is often easy to identify and repair.

Reason #5: Faulty Condenser Cooling Fans

When the fans aren’t functioning correctly, the refrigeration process stops, and little or no cold air will be available.

The condenser cooling fans can be checked visually along with the electric wiring connecting them to the controls.

Reason #6: The Compressor Has Failed

The compressor is the heart of the car AC system; without it functioning, the refrigeration process stops.

With no refrigerant circulating through the system, you’ll never get any cold air. The most common reason that a compressor fails is due to long periods without use. Lack of service tends to shock the system when it is finally used again in the spring or summer after sitting dormant all winter long.

To best combat this issue, we recommend running your AC system on full blast for at least 15 minutes roughly once every three weeks or so, regardless of the outside temperature. This will help keep the compressor fresh and extend its overall lifespan.

How Can We Help? Just because your car's air conditioner has stopped cooling doesn't mean that all is lost. The fix may be a relatively inexpensive repair so let us diagnose the system and prepare a costing to repair it for you.

31 Point Auto Air-conditioning Service & Re-Gas.

Vehicle air conditioning and gas safety: The gas used in your vehicle’s air conditioning system is regulated under Queensland law for your safety. Allowing untrained persons to undertake work or use unapproved gases in your vehicle poses a significant safety risk, and can result in significant and expensive damage to your air conditioning system.

Note: It is poor practice and against the law to re-gas any automotive A/C system with a known leak; it is therefore our policy to thoroughly inspect and leak test every vehicle before adding refrigerant gas R134a to the system.

As Air-conditioning systems are made smaller and more efficient, so are their components. One of the components that has undergone a major size reduction over the years is the evaporator, located under the dashboard. This component is much like a radiator in design and is responsible for removing the heat and moisture from the cabin.

Automotive Air-conditioner Condenser Replacement

The Air-conditioner condenser, located in front of the radiator is responsible for removing the heat from your Air-conditioning system. This is mainly the heat that was transferred form your cabin air via the evaporator.

Your condenser sits at the very front of your engine bay (in front of the radiator) and is responsible for converting refrigerant from a gaseous to a liquid state.
